LETRAN APPOINTS ANDREW ESTRELLA AS NEW SQUIRES HEAD COACH

Colegio de San Juan de Letran, in partnership with Strong Group Athletics, has appointed a championship-caliber coach to chart the future of the Squires program.

Andrew Estrella has officially been named head coach of the Letran Squires beginning NCAA Season 101.

Joining Estrella are Anton Escolin, JC Docto, and Kris Reyes. Bryan Cay will handle strength and conditioning, and Julianne Valencia joins as the team’s physical therapist.

"I'm thrilled to welcome our new coaches to the Letran Squires family," said Fr. Vic Calvo, OP of Letran Athletics.

"Their championship pedigree and grassroots philosophy align perfectly with our values. I'm confident they'll ignite a new era of success—fostering young talent and keeping the Arriba spirit burning bright. We’re also deeply grateful to Strong Group, led by Boss Frank and Jacob Lao, for their unwavering support of the Letran basketball program."

A rising figure in high school basketball, Estrella expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity.

"I'm incredibly thankful to Letran and Strong Group Athletics for this chance to lead the Squires," said Estrella. "Thank you to Fr. Raymond [Jose, OP], Fr. Vic, Boss Frank, and Boss Jacob for believing in me. I’ll give my best and make sure not to let anyone down."

Over the past two UAAP seasons, Estrella led the UE Junior Warriors’ Under-16 team.

His breakthrough came during UAAP Season 87, when he guided the Junior Warriors to their first-ever regular season championship in the Junior High School Boys’ division—ending a 39-year title drought for the UE program in UAAP basketball.

Letran, for its part, reached the Final Four of NCAA Season 100.

Now at the helm of the Squires, Estrella is expected to bring a unified vision that complements the direction of the Letran Knights, who are also supported by Strong Group and led by head coach Allen Ricardo.

"Coach Allen and I are on the same page," Estrella noted.

"We’ll ensure that both the Squires and Knights are aligned. It’s crucial for our system to be unified from grassroots to seniors to build a strong basketball culture here in Letran."

Despite his new responsibilities in Intramuros, Estrella shared that he will continue to serve UE.

"I may have a new home with Letran, but there are no goodbyes," he said. "I’ll still be consulting for UE. UE helped shape who I am as a coach, and I’ll always be grateful for that."
